The first half of 2024 in Europe
In the first half of 2024, the electric car market in Europe saw a significant increase, exceeding initial expectations. According to data provided by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), registrations of electric vehicles (BEVs and PHEVs) saw an overall growth of 25 percent compared to the same period last year.
Confirming this positive trend, gasoline car registrations decreased by 12 percent, while diesel vehicle registrations saw a 15 percent drop. Alternative-fuel cars now account for nearly 40 percent of new registrations in Europe, showing a significant shift in consumer preferences.
Compared to the first half of 2023, this has increased from about 400,000 registered alternative-fuel vehicles to more than 500,000. Italy stands at 18 percent of the European total, gaining ground over major markets such as Germany and the United Kingdom.
