Powy WaveLAB: An innovation hub for smart charging infrastructure launches in Bolzano

November 19, 2025 – Powy, a company that owns, develops, and manages Italy’s leading independent network of public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, andWaveLAB, a deep-tech startup specializing in Edge AI technologies for smart cities, have launched a strategic partnership to develop innovative technologies for managing charging stations. The project is based atthe NOI Techpark in Bolzano, an innovation ecosystem that hosts universities, research centers, and over 90 companies and startups, including WaveLAB itself. 

The testing hub serves as a research and development facility where the two companiesstudy and develop technological solutionsdesigned to improve the accessibility and efficiency of charging infrastructure. Among the main objectives are: combating unauthorized parking in charging bays—one of the main obstacles to the widespread adoption of electric mobility—and optimizing the overall management of charging stations. 

Technology to Combat Illegal Parking 

One of the first innovations currently being tested integratesthe Powy management system Powy WaveLAB’s real-time recognition and control technology. Sensors connected to the charging network detect approaching vehicles, verify their charging authorization, and monitor the charging status in real time. If the vehicle is not authorized, an automatic barrier prevents it from occupying the charging station. This shift moves from post-event monitoring to active prevention of misuse, with a direct impact on the availability of charging stations and user satisfaction. 

Toward new features 

The integration between the Powy WaveLAB systems paves the way forthe development of further innovative features: dynamic optimization of available charging spots, automated booking systems, and predictive management of charging flows. These technologies will be tested at the Bolzano hub to assess their potential implementation at Powy stations Powy Italy.
