October 20, 2025Powy, a company that owns, develops, and operates Italy’s leading independent network of public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, andCityZ, an innovative startup in the smart parking sector, announce a partnership to improve the charging experience for electric vehicle drivers and reduce the inconvenience caused by unauthorized parking.

As electric vehicles become more widespread, one of the most pressing challenges for e-drivers is emerging:the improper occupation of charging stations by vehicles that are not charging or are not electric. This phenomenon, also known asICE-ing(an acronym for Internal Combustion Engine), not only causes inconvenience but also limits the effectiveness of the public charging network, a critical infrastructure for the transition to zero-emission mobility.

The project, launched in two areas of Milan, involves the installation ofPowy Charging Stations Powy with CityZ’spatented sensor technology. The goal is to implement a scalable technological solution capable of optimizing parking space management in various settings—both urban and private—such as parking lots, hospitality facilities, and commercial spaces. This initial phase aims to study the integration of the two technologies and collect the data necessary to, in the future, enable services that allow users to check parking space availability in real time and plan their charging more quickly, efficiently, and safely.

Through this partnership, Powy CityZ are helping to build a more orderly and sustainable urban ecosystem by optimizing the use of public spaces and flagging illegal parking that restricts access to charging infrastructure, thereby mitigating the resulting inconvenience. The integration between the Powy network Powy CityZ sensorsprovides reliable, up-to-date data, facilitating parking planning and reducing wait times for e-drivers.

Federico Fea, CEO and co-founder of Powy, said:“One of the most common challenges for electric vehicle drivers in urban areas is the misuse of charging stations by non-electric vehicles. To reduce the inconvenience caused by this issue, we have launched a project to install CityZ parking sensors. The initial results are promising; and in the coming months, we plan to further integrate sensor data with charging data to accurately detect when a vehicle is occupying a spot without being charged. This will allow us to provide more accurate information to users and, in the future, may pave the way for potential partnerships with municipal governments.”

Andrea Buri, CEO of CityZ, added:“Our partnership with Powy how technological innovation can simplify life for drivers. Our sensors turn every charging station into a smart hub in the city, providing accurate data and contributing to more orderly and sustainable mobility.”

The installations in Milan are just the first step: in the coming months, Powy CityZ plan to expand the project toother Italian cities, reinforcing their shared commitment to the transition toward zero-emission mobility and increasingly smart management of urban infrastructure.
