More charging for the South: Powy and Despar South Central launch first stations

Installed the first electric column dedicated to retail and large-scale retail in Puglia

March 18, 2025 - Powy, a leading independent CPO that develops and operates a network of public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, active in Italy and Spain, continues its expansion with the installation of its first fast-charging station in Giovinazzo, in the province of Bari, at 121 Via Bari, at a Eurospar store.

This installation is part of theagreement signed last summer with Despar Centro Sud - Maiora SpA SB, a group with more than 450 stores in Puglia, Abruzzo, Calabria, Campania, Basilicata and Molise.

Overall, the agreement provides for the activation of six fast charging stations, each with two charging points, for a total of 12 points, which will supply 100% renewable energy to customers of the group's supermarkets involved. This initiative aims to make electric charging increasingly accessible at Despar Centro Sud stores, offering customers an efficient service that optimizes parking and shopping times.

Electric mobility in Southern Italy continues to grow, but the distribution of charging infrastructure remains uneven. According to Motus-E's most recent data, as of January 31, 2025, Italy had 64,981 electric vehicle charging points, with a concentration of 58 percent in the North, 20 percent in the Center, and only 22 percent in the South and Islands.

With this agreement, Powy and Maiora further strengthen their partnership, making access to electric charging more widespread in Despar Centro Sud supermarkets and contributing concretely to the area's sustainable transition.
