The municipality
The municipality of Nardò, located in the province of Lecce, is one of the most dynamic towns in Salento. With a population of about 31,000, Nardò boasts a rich historical, artistic and cultural heritage, including splendid Baroque architecture, archaeological sites and a coastline characterized by protected nature reserves.
In recent years, the city government has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, promoting policies aimed at reducing pollutant emissions and improving the quality of life for citizens and visitors. The transition to greener mobility is one of the strategic pillars for the city's future.
The need
With the introduction of two all-electric school buses in its fleet (purchased thanks to funding from the Puglia Region in the area of "zero-emission sustainable mobility"), the Municipality of Nardò has identified the need to install a reliable and efficient charging infrastructure.
The main challenge was to ensure a charging system that could support school bus mobility without compromising service continuity, while maintaining maximum operational efficiency.
In addition to meeting school transportation needs, the city administration aimed to promote access to electric mobility for residents and visitors by encouraging the adoption of zero-emission vehicles.
The solution
To meet this need, the Municipality of Nardò has identified Powy as the ideal partner for the installation of two strategic charging stations, at no cost to the Administration. Specifically:
- An alternating current (AC) "quick" station located on Giovanni Falcone Street. Equipped with two charging points, it is ideal for medium-term stops and perfect for those who need daily charging without urgency.
- A direct current (DC) "fast" station on Corso Galliano. Equipped with two high-power charging points, it is designed to quickly charge electric school buses and other vehicles that require short charging times.
Both infrastructures use 100% renewable energy, ensuring minimal environmental impact and supporting the municipality's transition to a zero-emission school transportation system. Through this initiative, Nardò is confirmed as a city at the forefront of promoting sustainable mobility solutions, actively contributing to reducing emissions and improving air quality.
