The need
With the number of electric vehicles growing rapidly, Milan recognized the urgent need to establish a comprehensive, reliable, and accessible public charging network capable of serving residents, commuters, and visitors in various parts of the city. The city administration’s goal was twofold: on the one hand, to reduce practical barriers to electric vehicle adoption by ensuring easily accessible and technologically up-to-date charging stations; on the other hand, to reinforce Milan’s image as a sustainable and smart city, contributing to improved air quality and reduced emissions within the urban environment.
The Solution
The partnership between Powy the City of Milan has, to date, led to the launch of 18 locations within the city limits, totaling 52 public charging points, all powered 100% by renewable energy and equipped with a mix of technologies designed to meet both daily charging needs and the need for faster charging. In addition, more than 30 new locations are already in the planning stages, adding over 60 additional charging points, with a total investment of approximately 900,000 euros. The long-term vision is to create at least another 300 charging points in the coming months, further consolidating Milan’s role as a national leader in urban electric mobility.
