Pisa: first activation of electric charging stations with Metropark

In Pisa, the Metropark parking lot is increasingly at the service of citizens. The FS Group's parking area is being transformed into an "innovative and green" multimodal hub, allowing those traveling to or from the station, or for those living in the city, to safely recharge their cars thanks to the strategic location of the parking areas managed by Metropark.

Attending the event this morning, during which the opening of the first 6 electric charging stations for a total of 12 parking spaces in the Pisa parking lot was inaugurated, were Mayor Michele Conti, Urban Planning and Mobility Councillor Massimo Dringoli, Francesco Parlato, Metropark CEO, Federico Fea, CEO of Powy and Ciro Papa, e-Mobility manager of Stellantis Italia.

The installation was made by the company Powy with which Metropark in April 2022 signed a framework agreement with the aim of placing up to 600 charging points in the parking lots of the FS Group's Urban Pole Company by 2025.

The initiative aims to complement the service offering and enhance the station's role as an intermodal hub. It will then be possible to access charging services for electric vehicles, increasing the range of efficient and less polluting mobility for the benefit of citizens, travelers, commuters and visitors.

The 6 charging stations, accessible h24 7 days a week, will be able to respond to the different charging needs of customers: 5 in alternating current (AC of 22 kW for each outlet, capable of recharging the car in a few hours) and 1 in direct current (DC initially of 75 kW, with the possibility of upgrading up to 150 kW) produced by Alpitronic, a leading Italian company in Europe. The stations, all powered by 100% renewable energy, are part of the public electric vehicle charging network that Powy is building in partnership with the Stellantis Group. As with the entire network, these points are available for charging all electric vehicles and will provide exclusive conditions for Stellantis vehicle owners.

To take advantage of the recharging service, in addition to using the recharging cards and apps of major operators, one can also make a digital payment without downloading apps or registering for a service, ensuring a quick and easy recharging experience even for transient or occasional customers.

The intervention, consistent with current sustainable urban mobility policies, contributes to the transfer of traffic shares from the private car to collective transport and to the development of new forms of travel, including shared and electric travel.

"Metropark parking lots play a key role in the transition to a new, more sustainable and shared mobility model," comments Francesco Parlato, Metropark CEO, "as well as strengthening the role of railway stations as multi-service hubs. The installation of electric charging stations is one of the cornerstones in the FS Italian Group's shared mobility perspective." Our spaces are all conceived as hubs with cultural, social and economic value, complying with international standards in order to monitor the legislative compliance of the sites from the point of view of environmental impacts and constantly improve the sustainability performance of the assets. With a view to ecological transition, the application of the UNI EN ISO 14001 standard provides the useful tools for creating a goal-oriented mindset to facilitate the transition from a system of polluting energy sources to a virtuous model centered on green ones."

"We are very pleased to have started this first step in our collaboration with Metropark, starting right from Pisa Station, which plays a key role in fostering the transition to increasingly sustainable mobility, both for local users and for owners of electric vehicles in transit. We are only at the first phase of the project and we are already planning the next installations to reach a total of 600 charging points in different Metropark parking lots located in railway stations throughout Italy." - concludes Federico Fea, CEO of Powy.

"The inauguration of the charging station in Pisa, represents a new part of Stellantis' commitment to driving the energy transition, ensuring safe, sustainable and accessible mobility," stresses Ciro Papa, e-Mobility manager of Stellantis Italy.

"We welcome with great pleasure," says Pisamo administrator Andrea Bottone, "the intervention in the Metropark rest area at Pisa Station because it fully espouses the commitment carried out by Pisamo in recent years in the transition to an increasingly sustainable and green model of smart mobility, helping to propel our city into the future."

"As the Municipal Administration," says the mayor of Pisa Michele Conti, "we are happy that Metropark, a company of the Urban Pole of the Italian FS Group, together with Powy, a partner of the Stellantis Group, have chosen Pisa as the first city in Italy where to build a green parking lot available to citizens, visitors and users of the Station, to take advantage of charging services for electric vehicles. The new parking lot constitutes an innovative service for an area of great transit such as Pisa Station, with more than 18 million travelers, an area that our Administration right now is redeveloping with a major urban regeneration project, carried out in agreement with Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, to make it increasingly welcoming functional and sustainable."
